Recap: Indiana State vs. Northern Iowa

Terre Haute, IN (Sports Network) - Jake Odum calmly sank two free throws with 0.3 seconds remaining to lift the Indiana State Sycamores to a 59-58 win over the Northern Iowa Panthers in Missouri Valley Conference action from the Hulman Center.

Odum finished with a game-high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists. R.J. Mahurin added 14 points and Manny Arop scored 10 to help the Sycamores (13-7, 6-3 MVC) sweep the season series with UNI.

Anthony James paced four players in double figures for the Panthers (11-10, 4-5) with 15 points. Jake Koch contributed 13 points but was whistled for a costly foul late in the game that sent Odum to the line for the deciding free throws. Seth Tuttle scored 12 and Deon Mitchell finished with 10 points in the loss.

The Panthers hit five 3-pointers in the first half and held Indiana State to 35.7-percent shooting from the floor to grab a 27-23 lead at the break.

UNI led by as many as seven in the second half, but Indiana State used a 9-1 run to take a 55-52 lead with just under three minutes to play. James came up big down the stretch and his baseline jumper with 3.3 seconds remaining put the Panthers back on top. However, Odum took the inbound pass and drew a foul while attempting a long 3-pointer with less than a second on the clock.

The Sycamores were more successful at getting looks near the rim, as they held a 24-12 scoring edge inside the paint.
