Springfield, MO (Sports Network) - Marcus Marshall scored 19 points as the Missouri State Bears held on for a 67-65 win over the Indiana State Sycamores in a Missouri Valley Conference battle at JQH Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for the Bears (8-18, 6-8 MVC) were Christian Kirk and Keith Pickens with 14 and 11 points, respectively, as the team snapped a two-game slide. Pickens also accounted for a team-best nine rebounds.

The Sycamores (16-9, 9-5), who entered the night in a three-way tie with Creighton and Wichita State for first place in the conference standings, were led by Jake Odum who logged 21 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, followed by Manny Arop with 15 points in the setback.

Indiana State led by as many as eight points in the first six minutes of the contest, but the squad shot only 34.5 percent from the floor in the half and fell behind by a point at the break, 29-28.

In the second half MSU moved out to a 14-point advantage at the 8:53 mark, but the Bears had their issues as well before holding on for the two-point victory.

The hosts turned the ball over just seven times and outscored the Sycamores at the free-throw line, 20-13.
