Recap: Missouri State vs. Valparaiso

Springfield, MO (Sports Network) - LaVonte Dority scored 20 points off the bench to lead the Valparaiso Crusaders to a 62-54 win over the Missouri State Bears in non-conference action at JQH Arena.

Ryan Broekhoff scored 15 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double for Valparaiso (7-3) which had lost two of its last three. Bobby Capobianco added 10 points as a reserve.

Marcus Marshall finished with 14 points and Anthony Downing and Christian Kirk each had 13 points for Missouri State (2-8) which has dropped six straight.

It was Missouri State that led at halftime after connecting on 47.8 percent of its shots in the first half while Valparaiso hit just 40.0 percent of its shots in the first 20 minutes.

In the second half the Crusaders would lead by as many as 12 points largely due to foul shooting as they outscored the Bears 20-3 from the free throw line in the second half.

Valparaiso had a 37-29 edge on the boards. Missouri state outscored the Crusaders 24-12 on points in the paint. Valparaiso's bench outscored the Bears' by a 32-4 margin.
