The Hornets never trailed in the first half as they built their advantage on the scoreboard to as great as eight points before taking a narrow, 29-27 lead into halftime. Eastern Washington trailed at the intermission despite hitting on 44.0 percent of its field goal attempts while limiting the hosts to 38.5 percent shooting from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of action.

The visitors used a 12-3 run midway through the second half to go in front for the first time and grab a 48-44 lead, but Sacramento State scored the next 10 points to go back on top for good. The Hornets outscored the Eagles, 13-1, at the free throw line after the break to collect the six-point decision.

Sacramento State managed to produce nine fastbreak points and the same total on second chances, while the Eagles failed to generate any points on fast breaks and just two off of offensive rebounds.
