Recap: Weber State vs. Montana

Ogden, UT (Sports Network) - Kyle Tresnak posted a game-high 19 points, leading four players in double figures, as the Weber State Wildcats crushed the Montana Grizzlies, 87-63, in Big Sky Conference action at the Dee Events Center.

Davion Berry added 16 points, six assists and three steals for the Wildcats (18-5, 13-2 Big Sky), followed by Frank Otis and Gelaun Wheelwright with 14 points apiece as Weber State won its fifth straight game and closed the gap to just a single game at the top of the league standings.

The Grizzlies (18-5, 14-1) were paced by Mathias Ward and Will Cherry who both dropped in 18 points for a team that entered the night with the third-longest overall win streak in the nation at 14 in a row.

Montana also rolled into the meeting with the longest Big Sky Conference win streak in history with 25 in a row, overtaking the Wildcats ironically enough who held the previous mark of 24 straight set from 1967-68 to the 1969-70 campaign.

Montana led by a single point early in the meeting, but the hosts wasted little time in putting the Grizzlies in their place by limiting the visitors to only 8-of-25 shooting over the first 20 minutes of action. Thanks to an impressive 55.6 percent showing by WSU in the period, the Wildcats streaked ahead by 20 points at the break, 44-24.

In the second half Montana tried to close the gap by converting an impressive 65.0 percent from the floor, but at the same time Weber State connected on 60.7 percent in order to cruise to the 24-point win.

The Grizzlies shot only 4-of-15 behind the 3-point line, cleared a mere five offensive rebounds and turned the ball over 14 times on the night.
