Recap: Chattanooga vs. High Point

Chattanooga, TN (Sports Network) - Ronrico White scored 21 points to lead the Chattanooga Mocs to a 68-61 decision over the High Point Panthers in the Dr. Pepper Challenge at McKenzie Arena.

White went 5-of-10 from the field and 9-of-11 at the free throw line for the Mocs (4-8) as they picked up their second win in a row. Z. Mason just missed a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds and Gee McGhee contributed 12 points. Chattanooga will take on Utah Valley in the next round of the tournament.

John Brown registered an impressive double-double for High Point (4-7) as he finished with 23 points and 16 boards. Adam Weary and Devante Wallace scored 15 and 13 points, respectively. Lorenzo Cugini helped on the glass by grabbing 12 rebounds, but the Panthers endured their third consecutive loss. They will try to end the losing slide when they tangle with Austin Peay in the next phase of the tourney.

Neither side managed to take control in the early stages of the contest. High Point took a narrow 32-30 lead into halftime after it scored eight points off of turnovers in the opening 20 minutes. The Mocs trailed at the break despite outscoring the visitors, 22-14, in the paint in the first half.

UTC jumped in front just over 30 seconds into the second period and extended its lead to as many as nine. The Panthers came roaring back and Brown made a jumper to give them to lead once again with 7:59 left in regulation. White answered with a make from 3-point range to put the Mocs back on top, but the visitors refused to go away. Wallace knocked down a shot from beyond the arc with 31 seconds on the game clock to narrow UTC's advantage to 62-61. The Mocs sealed the win by converting 6-of-6 at the charity stripe and holding High Point scoreless the rest of the way.

The Panthers held a 45-32 edge in the rebounding battle, but it was not enough to overcome their 18 turnovers and seven misses at the free throw line. UTC won despite a poor 2-of-21 shooting performance from beyond the arc.

In 2013, the Montana State Bobcats made a bit of an offensive switch, going from a pass-heavy system to a more run- integrated style of play. The reason wasn't because the team was unstable at quarterback, but rather due to the fact the Bobcats were loaded at the running back position.
