Recap: Delaware vs. Drexel

Newark, DE (Sports Network) - Devon Saddler tallied 31 points for the Delaware Blue Hens who defeated the Drexel Dragons, 73-71, in a Colonial Athletic Association overtime matchup at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Saddler, the league's top scorer, was 9-of-14 from the field and scored 11 points at the free-throw line for Delaware (15-13, 10-5 CAA), which has won four if its last five games. While Jarvis Threatt contributed 13 points, Jamelle Hagins put together a huge double-double with 18 rebounds and 14 points. Coming into the game Hagins needed just one rebound to reach the 1,000 mark. He is now the seventh active player in the country to have 1,000 or more rebounds.

Damion Lee also had a double-double for Drexel (11-16, 7-8) with 25 points and 11 rebounds but shot just 9-of-25 from the field and 3-of-11 from 3-point range. Derrick Thomas scored 19 points and Frantz Massenat added 17 points and six assists as the Dragons suffered their second loss in the last three games.

The Dragons were scoreless in the first five minutes of the game as Delaware opened up on a 7-0 run. Delaware led 31-24 at halftime after shooting over 50.0 percent from the field.

In the second half Drexel stepped up defensively and held the Blue Hens to just 28.6 percent shooting from the floor while outscoring them 28-21. With the game tied 52-52, Massenat drove to the basket in the final seconds and as he put the ball in the air it was denied by Brinkley who sent the ball flying out of bounds with 1.7 seconds left. The inbounds play for Drexel did not result in a basket and the game headed to overtime.

A back and forth overtime period left the game tied 60-60 and after Tavon Allen missed a potential game winner for the Dragons, Threatt chucked up a 3- pointer from half-court for Delaware but it fell short and the game was sent to double-overtime.

In double-overtime it was back and forth again but with eight seconds left as the Dragons trailed by one point, Lee put up a 3-pointer which was no good and Hagins grabbed the rebound before being fouled. Hagins made one of two with four seconds on the clock. Massenat drove down the court and put up a shot which appeared to be have been goal-tended but there was no call and the Blue Hens took the game.
