Recap: Northern Ariz vs. Southern Utah

Flagstaff, AZ (Sports Network) - Damon Heuir scored a season-high 30 points to lead the Southern Utah Thunderbirds to a 90-77 victory over the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, in a Big Sky matchup at the Walkup Skydome.

For the Thunderbirds (5-7, 3-0 Big Sky), Jackson Stevenett added 14 points and Wade Collie chipped in with 10 points. Julian Scott added 13 points off the bench.

Gabe Rogers led the Lumberjacks (5-9, 2-2) with 23 points, while DeWayne Russell finished with 18 points, Max Jacobsen scored 16 points and Michael Dunn added 10 points.

Southern Utah came out of the gate red-hot, connecting on 62.5 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half, draining 6-of-10 from beyond the 3-point arc, en route to a 42-30 lead at halftime. Northern Arizona shot just 34.4 percent from the field in the half, missing all but one of its six 3-point attempts. The Thunderbirds used a 19-2 run early in the half to build their big lead.

The second half was a more competitive contest, with the Lumberjacks hitting 48.4 percent, but just 2-of-11 from 3-point range. The Thunderbirds shot 50 percent from the field, but only took three 3-point attempts, making one. The Lumberjacks were able to cut their deficit to just five midway through the second half, but they would get no closer, as the Thunderbirds remained perfect in league play.

The Thunderbirds had a big advantage at the free-throw line, outscoring the Lumberjacks 33-22. Northern Arizona forced 22 Southern Utah turnovers and converted them into 22 points.
