Recap: George Mason vs. Hofstra

Fairfax, VA (Sports Network) - Behind a 21-point effort from Sherrod Wright, the George Mason Patriots were able to fend off the Hofstra Pride, 57-46, in Colonial Athletic Association action at the Patriot Center.

Wright shot 8-of-18 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the foul line for George Mason (11-7, 4-2 CAA), which has won four of its last five bouts.

Taran Buie scored 14 points to pace Hofstra (5-13, 2-3), which has lost three of four and 11 of its last 13. Stevie Mejia added 10 points, while Stephen Nwaukoni grabbed 12 rebounds.

George Mason shot 44 percent from the field in the first half as it took a 31-23 lead into intermission. Hofstra went a dreadful 4-of-25 from the floor (.160), but it kept the game within shouting distance by going 14-of-18 from the free-throw line.

The Pride opened up the second half strong and tied the game at 33-33 on a Mejia jumper with 14:58 left, but the Patriots would never allow Hofstra to take the lead. A 16-4 run later in the half would help seal George Mason's fate.

Hofstra shot a lowly 22.9 percent from the field in the game and had more turnovers (15) than field goals (11).
