Recap: Georgia State vs. Northeastern

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Joel Smith tallied 29 points and nine rebounds as the Northeastern Huskies defeated the Georgia State Panthers, 90-84 in overtime, in Colonial Athletic Association action at GSU Sports Arena.

David Walker chipped in 16 points for the Huskies (19-10, 14-3 CAA). Zach Stahl added 12 points and seven boards. Jonathan Lee logged 11 points and nine assists, while Quincy Ford also put up 11 points as Northeastern won its second consecutive game.

For the Panthers (15-16, 10-8), Manny Atkins recorded a double-double with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Devonta White chipped in 24 points and four assists. R.J. Hunter contributed 13 points as Georgia State lost for the second time in three games.

In the first half, Georgia State outshot Northeastern from the field, 51.9 percent to 41.4 percent, as it took a 37-30 advantage at the break.

Northeastern came back in the second half, taking a 72-70 lead with a 01:25 left on traditional three-point play by Stahl. Georgia State's Devonta White made a layup with 01:15 seconds remaining to tie the game, but he missed the ensuing free-throw attempt. Both teams had missed opportunities in the final minute and the game went to overtime.

In the extra session, Northeastern made 2-of-3 from long range and made all 12 of its free throws to claim the win.

Northeastern shot a perfect 27-of-27 from the free-throw line. For Georgia State, Hunter set a school record for points in a season for a freshman (527).
