Recap: Northeastern vs. Old Dominion

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Richard Ross had 17 points and nine rebounds, as the Old Dominion Monarchs put the stamp on their final CAA game with an 81-74 win over the Northeastern Huskies at Matthews Arena.

Ross was also active on the defensive end, tallying three blocks and two steals. DeShawn Painter and Donte Hill added 15 points each for the Monarchs (5-25, 3-15), who are moving to Conference USA next season. Keenan Palmore and Dimitri Batten scored 13 apiece in the victory.

The Huskies (19-11, 14-4 CAA) came out flat after clinching the CAA regular- season crown earlier this week. Jonathan Lee finished with a game-high 26 points, and Joel Smith scored 19 in a losing effort.

NU made only 8-of-27 field goals (.296) in the first half, while ODU shot 19- of-30 (.633) to build a 43-26 halftime lead.

The Monarchs scored the first six points of the second stanza to stretch the margin to 23. It was a 25-point game with 11:30 to play before the Huskies made their move with a 21-4 run, which cut the deficit to eight with 4:11 remaining. A layup by Lee off a fastbreak made it a 78-74 game with 19 seconds on the clock, but the Huskies were unable to draw any closer.

ODU hung on to win despite 20 turnovers, thanks in part to a decisive 56-32 scoring advantage inside the paint.
