Recap: Austin Peay vs. Utah Valley U

Chattanooga, TN (Sports Network) - Nick Thompson posted the first triple- double in Utah Valley school history and the Wolverines outlasted the Austin Peay Governors, 84-77, on Friday at the Dr. Pepper Classic.

On 6-of-9 shooting, Thompson scored 13 points to go along with 12 assists and 10 rebounds to help the Wolverines (7-8) bounce back after a loss to North Carolina Central.

Ben Aird scored a team-high 26 points and also pulled down eight boards, while Holton Hunsaker tallied 21 points for Utah Valley, which will face either Chattanooga or High Point on Saturday.

Austin Peay (4-9) dropped its fifth straight contest with the loss. Travis Beltran scored a game-high 27 points and Anthony Campbell followed with 22 in defeat.

The Governors carried a 40-38 lead heading into halftime thanks to back-to- back 3-pointers from Jeremy Purvis and Beltran in the final minute.

After Matt Hasse scored a bucket to tie the game at 51-51, Beltran knocked down another triple to put Austin Peay ahead 54-51 with 12:33 to play.

Almost three minutes later, Campbell buried a jumper to give the Govenors their largest lead of the half at 64-59, but the Wolverines seized momentum soon after.

Back-to-back layups from Alfonzo Hubbard capped an 11-3 push, putting Utah Valley ahead 78-70 with just over two minutes remaining.

The Govenors would come as close as five points the rest of the way.
