Recap: Cleveland State vs. Valparaiso

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Ryan Broekhoff scored 15 points, leading five players in double figures, as the Valparaiso Crusaders captured an 80-72 win against the Cleveland State Vikings in Horizon League play at the Wolstein Center.

Kevin Van Wijk accounted for 14 points, Bobby Capobianco 13 in just 13 minutes off the bench, followed by Will Bogan and Erik Buggs with 11 points apiece for the Crusaders (19-6, 9-2 HL) as they won their third straight and the ninth in the last 10 outings. Buggs also handed out eight assists.

The Vikings (12-13, 4-7) were paced by Bryn Forbes who tallied a game-high 24 points, hitting on 8-of-10 shots from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 beyond the arc. Marlin Mason contributed 16 points and Tim Kamczyc 10 points and eight rebounds as the team had a two-game win streak come to an end.

Valpo scored the first points of the day and never looked back, converting 60.9 percent from the floor in the first half and 13-of-15 at the free-throw line in order to take a 44-30 advantage at the break.

In the second half CSU closed the gap, but still the Crusaders made good on 50 percent from the field as they captured the eight-point win.

The Vikings knocked down an impressive 7-of-15 shots from 3-point range, but at the same time turned the ball over 17 times which Valpo traded in for 27 points.
