Recap: Ill-Chicago vs. Eastern Mich

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Daniel Barnes poured in a career-high 30 points to help lift the Illinois-Chicago Flames to a 74-48 rout over the Eastern Michigan Eagles in a non-league matchup at UIC Pavilion.

Barnes, who began his career as a reserve guard at Eastern Michigan in 2008-09 before transferring, did most of his damage from beyond the arc, knocking down 6-of-13 3-pointers. Gary Talton added 12 points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals to help the Flames (9-1) to their eighth straight win.

Glenn Bryant led the way with 10 points and seven boards for the Eagles (6-3), who are now winless in three road games this season.

UIC grabbed a 24-19 halftime lead despite shooting just 30.8 percent from the floor in the first half, including a 3-of-16 effort from beyond the arc. Neither team managed a single field goal between Derek Thompson's jumper at the 10:44 mark and Barnes' 3-pointer with 3:47 to play in the half. The triple by Barnes ignited a 8-0 surge by the Flames.

UIC really heated up in the second stanza, shooting 60.7 percent from the floor and burying an impressive 9-of-13 threes. The Eagles were simply unable to keep pace, as they shot just 31.4 percent from the floor after halftime.

In addition to their poor shooting, the Eagles committed 19 turnovers for the game and managed only four assists on 20 field goals.
