Recap: Milwaukee vs. Youngstown St
Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Kamren Belin led the Penguins with 21 points as Youngstown State held on to defeat the Milwaukee Panthers, 75-72, in a Horizon League tilt at the Klotsche Center.
Damian Eargle added 17 points and three blocks for YSU (10-8, 2-3 HL), while Blake Allen tallied 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. The victory ended the Penguins' two-game losing slide.
J.J. Panoske and Austin Arians paced the Panthers (5-14, 1-4) with 15 points each. Jordan Aaron and Paris Gully also got into the mix with 13 points apiece. Aaron dealt out eight assists while Demetrius Harris finished a single point and rebound shy of a double-double.
The Penguins were in rhythm early on and assisted 12 of their 16 makes from the floor in the opening stanza to build a 43-39 halftime lead. Milwaukee stayed within striking distance by sinking 6-of-17 from 3-point range in the first period. Arians and Aaron were responsible for 21 of the Panthers' points before the break.
Although YSU shot 46.4 percent from the floor and limited Milwaukee to 39.4 percent shooting after the intermission, the Panthers kept it close by grabbing 23 rebounds to the visitors' 17 in the second stanza. While they never managed to pull away for a convincing win, the Penguins held onto the lead for the final 11:40 of regulation.
Milwaukee was hurt by its poor, 7-of-13 performance at the charity stripe. Both squads tallied 30 points in the paint in the very even matchup.Game Notes
