Recap: Northern Ill vs. Loyola-Chicago

DeKalb, IL (Sports Network) - Ben Averkamp's double-double led the Loyola- Chicago Ramblers to a 53-46 road victory over the Northern Illinois Huskies at the Convocation Center.

Averkamp scored 15 points, grabbed 10 boards and had three steals for the Ramblers (4-2), who also got 10 points from Cully Payne. The Ramblers won despite assisting on only five of 14 made field goals.

Akeem Springs scored 15 points to lead the Huskies (1-3), who struggled shooting all afternoon. They shot just 29.8 percent from the floor including a 3-of-14 effort from beyond the arc

The Flames led for most of the first half and took a slim 16-15 advantage into the locker room. Averkamp had 10 at the break while Springs was the Huskies' leading scorer with just five.

The scoring picked up in the second half for both teams. The key sequence in the game came midway through the second half when Loyola went on an 18-4 run to break the game open. NIU shot just 2-of-12 during that stretch.

The Huskies cut the deficit to five with less than a minute remaining but late free throws from Payne and Jeff White sealed the win for the Ramblers.

Loyola-Chicago now leads the all-time series, 17-16.
