Recap: Cornell vs. Yale

Ithaca, NY (Sports Network) - Matt Townsend scored a team-high 19 points as the Yale Bulldogs defeated the Cornell Big Red, 79-70, in Ivy League play at Newman Arena.

Austin Morgan contributed 15 points for the Bulldogs (12-17, 6-6 Ivy League). Brandon Sherrod was one-rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points. Greg Kelley added 10 points as Yale snapped a two-game losing streak.

For the Big Red (13-16, 5-7), Nolan Cressler put up 19 points and six boards. Errick Peck also chipped in 19 points as Cornell moved to a four-game losing streak.

In the first half, Cornell was held to a mere 8-of-29 from the floor. Yale made 15-of-27 field goal attempts, including 3-of-6 beyond the arc, en route to a 38-24 advantage at the break.

In the second half, Cornell corrected it's shooting making 18-of-41 from the floor including 7-of-14 from long-range. Yale was held to 9-of-24 from the floor, but it made 20-of-24 free throw attempts as it took the nine-point victory.

Cornell lost despite a 42-33 advantage on the boards. Yale lead by as many as 17 points and outscored the Big Red, 25-8, from the charity stripe.
