Recap: Kent State vs. Akron

Kent, OH (Sports Network) - Zeke Marshall and Demetrius Treadwell both notched double-doubles, as the Akron Zips rallied to beat the Kent State Golden Flashes, 71-67, in a Mid-American Conference tussle at the M.A.C. Center.

Marshall tallied 17 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks, while Treadwell finished with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Fifteen of the duo's collective boards came on the offensive glass, as Akron (13-4, 4-0 MAC) enjoyed a key 23-8 edge in second-chance points. Chauncey Gilliam added 11 points in 16 minutes off the bench to help the Zips overcome a 10-point halftime deficit and earn their ninth straight win.

Chris Evans finished with a team-high 19 points and seven boards for the Golden Flashes (11-7, 2-2), who saw their winning streak halted at two games. Darren Goodson and Kris Brewer each scored 14 in the loss.

Despite some early shooting woes, Akron led by as many as six at the 8:26 ark of the first half. However, Kent State closed out the frame on a 21-5 run to take a 10-point lead into the break.

But the Golden Flashes went ice-cold after halftime, making only 6-of-21 field goals (.286) over the final 20 minutes. Meanwhile, Akron buried 6-of-15 3- pointers after shooting just 1-of-10 from the perimeter in the first half.

Akron recorded a 51-39 rebounding advantage to win its fifth straight in the head-to-head series, The Zips collected 26 offensive boards, compared to 14 for Kent State.
