Recap: Bowling Green vs. Akron

Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - Demetrius Treadwell registered a double- double of 10 points and 11 boards as the Akron Zips defeated the Bowling Green Falcons, 68-55, in a Mid-American Conference matchup at the Stroh Center to pick up their 12th consecutive victory.

Zeke Marshall led Akron (16-4, 7-0 MAC) with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting, Nick Harney added 10 points, and Alex Abreu posted nine points and six assists. The win improved the Zips to 7-0 in league play for the first time since they joined the MAC in 1992-93.

Chauncey Orr tallied a game-high 16 points for BGSU (7-13, 2-5), which lost for the second time in a row. A'uston Calhoun contributed a double-double of 11 points and 11 boards, but went 2-of-13 from the field. Craig Sealey provided a spark off the bench with 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the floor.

Akron was not overwhelming in the opening stanza, connecting on just 40 percent of its field goal tries without a single trip to the free-throw line. However, the visitors held the Falcons to 18.5 percent shooting from the field to take a 28-17 lead into the break. Abreu knocked down both of his 3-point attempts in the first half to give Akron an early lift.

Although BGSU heated up to connect on 12-of-24 from the floor and convert 13- of-14 at the charity stripe in the second half, the Zips stayed in front by draining 57.1 percent of their field goal tries in the final 20 minutes of action.

Akron held a 40-31 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored the hosts, 17-9, in second chance points.
