Recap: Western Mich vs. Toledo

Kalamazoo, MI (Sports Network) - Darius Paul and David Brown each scored 15 points and Shayne Whittington hung up a double-double as the Western Michigan Broncos defeated the Toledo Rockets, 79-56, in Mid-American Conference action at University Arena.

Whittington had 12 points and 13 rebounds and also blocked five shots for Western Michigan (9-7, 1-2 MAC) which snapped a three-game losing streak.

Julius Brown scored 16 points as the only player in double figures for Toledo (7-7, 2-1) which has lost consecutive games.

Western Michigan hit 41.9 percent of its shots in the first half, including 4- of-11 from beyond the arc. The Broncos also limited Toledo to 26.7 percent shooting in the opening period to take a 34-19 lead at the break.

Both teams improved in the second half with Western Michigan netting 55.9 percent of its shots from the floor which was enough to outlast the Rockets who nailed 48.9 percent.

The Broncos dominated inside with a 44-26 edge in rebounds and a 38-16 advantage in points in the paint.
