Recap: Northern Ill vs. Eastern Mich

DeKalb, IL (Sports Network) - Glenn Bryant and Derek Thompson scored 14 points apiece as the Eastern Michigan Eagles prevailed in a defensive struggle over the Northern Illinois Huskies, 53-41, in a Mid-American Conference bout at the Convocation Center.

Bryant also added eight rebounds, while Thompson swiped four steals for EMU (13-15, 6-7 MAC), which had lost four of its previous five games.

Travon Baker and Darrell Bowie netted eight points apiece for NIU (5-21, 3-10), while Abdel Nader hauled in nine rebounds. The Huskies shot a lowly 23.8 percent from the field on the evening and extended their season-long losing streak to seven games.

EMU shot only 36.7 percent from the field in the first half, but it was able to hold NIU to 33.3 percent, as it took a 30-22 lead into intermission.

The Eagles led by double-digits for the majority of the second half thanks mostly to a futile shooting effort by the Huskies, who made only 4-of-24 from the field (.167) in the final 20 minutes.

NIU was plagued by 18 turnovers, which EMU converted into 18 points.
