Recap: Murray State vs. Austin Peay
Murray, KY (Sports Network) - Isaiah Canaan tallied 19 points and eight rebounds, as the Murray State Racers outlasted the Austin Peay Governors in overtime, 75-68, in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt at the CFSB Center.
Latreze Mushatt contributed 14 points and eight boards off the bench for the Racers (16-5, 7-2 OVC), while Ed Daniel and Stacy Wilson scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Anthony Campbell finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and six turnovers for the Governors (5-18, 1-8), who suffered their sixth consecutive loss. Travis Betran chipped in with 15 points and six assists, while Chris Horton recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six blocks.
Austin Peay jumped out to an early 13-3 lead, but Murray State weathered the storm and went ahead, 16-15, on a jumper by Daniel at the 7:26 mark. The Racers eventually went into the locker room with a 29-28 halftime lead despite shooting just 9-of-29 (.310) from the floor in the opening frame.
Murray State opened the second stanza with an 8-0 spurt to stretch the lead to nine, its largest of the game. However, the Governors went on to sink 7-of-14 3-pointers in the period, and they had a five-point lead with just under two minutes to play in regulation. Murray State battled back, and Canaan made 1- of-2 free throws with 14 seconds on the clock to tie the score at 63-63. On the other end of the floor, Betran missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer as time expired to send the game to overtime.
The Racers converted a perfect 7-of-7 free throws in the extra session, while Austin Peay went 1-of-3 at the charity stripe and shot just 2-of-8 from the floor.
Murray State shot a mere 38.7 percent for the game but committed only six turnovers to notch its fifth straight win in the head-to-head series. The Racers also held a pivotal 23-7 scoring advantage at the foul line.Game Notes
