Recap: Belmont vs. Morehead State

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Kerron Johnson tied a school record for free throws made in a game as he shot 19-of-21, en route to 25 points, to lead the Belmont Bruins to a 93-74 win over the Morehead State Eagles in an Ohio Valley Conference showdown at the Curb Events Center.

JJ Mann added 18 points on 6-of-9 from the field as Belmont (18-4, 9-0 OVC) improved to 9-1 at home this season. Blake Jenkins scored 15 points while Spencer Turner finished with 14 points, eight boards and five assists off the bench.

Bruce Reed led Morehead State (11-12, 5-4) with 16 points in 33 minutes as a reserve. Drew Kelly and Bakari Turner netted 14 points apiece while Devon Atkinson notched 10 points and six assists.

Belmont erupted for 55 points in the first half on 53.8 percent shooting and a superb 23-of-26 at the charity stripe. Morehead State committed 17 fouls in the period and trailed by 19 points at the break.

The Bruins never eased up despite their significant halftime advantage, opening the second half on a 6-2 run to quickly end any thoughts of an MSU comeback.

Belmont has now won 15 consecutive games at home dating back to last season, improving to 2-0 all-time over Morehead State as well.
