Recap: Eastern Ill vs. IUPU-Ft Wayne

Ypsilanti, MI (Sports Network) - Sherman Blanford led the Eastern Illinois Panthers with 17 points as they defeated the IUPU Ft, Wayne Mastodons 68-67 in part of the Eastern Michigan "Ice Man" Classic at the Convocation Center.

Blanford shot 8-of-14 from the floor and led the Panthers (2-3) with seven rebounds in the victory. Josh Piper added 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc while Morris Woods and Malcolm Herron each tallied 11 points.

Kevin Harden was 8-of-12 from the field scoring 22 points for the Mastodons (2-3) in the loss. Frank Gaines contributed 15 points while Mario Hines added 10.

The Panthers were up 34-33 going into halftime with their bench combining for 12 points compared to just one from the IPFW reserves.

Eastern Illinois trailed with 21 seconds remaining in regulation until Blanford made the go-ahead layup to put Eastern Illinois on top 68-67.

The Panther's outscored the Mastodons 34-24 on points in the paint.
