Recap: Eastern Ill vs. Murray State

Charleston, IL (Sports Network) - Morris Woods made seven of his eight field goal tries to net a game-high 21 points for the Panthers as Eastern Illinois upset the Murray State Racers, 79-70, in an Ohio Valley Conference matchup at Lantz Arena.

Sherman Blanford produced a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds which he accompanied with five assists for EIU (8-19, 5-9 OVC) as it ended a two- game losing slide. Taylor Jones also provided 15 points while Alex Austin chipped in 10 on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor off the bench.

Stacy Wilson paced the Racers (18-7, 9-4) with 20 points after he connected on 6-of-12 attempts from beyond the arc. Dexter Fields scored 14 points while Isaiah Canaan finished 5-of-20 from the field to tally 12 points. Jeffery Moss got into the mix with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor for Murray State, which suffered its second setback in a row.

The Panthers closed out the first half on an 11-4 run to take a 31-26 lead into halftime. EIU shot an even 50 percent from the floor while limiting the Racers to makes on only 36 percent of their field goal tries before the break.

Murray State connected on 11-of-24 attempts from beyond the arc in the second half, but the Panthers stayed in front by hitting 14 of their 23 field goal tries while converting 16-of-23 at the free-throw line.

The Racers still own a 37-9 record versus EIU in the all-time series. The Panthers came into the contest averaging just 60.0 points per game on the offensive end.
