Recap: Eastern Ill vs. SIU Edwardsville

Charleston, IL (Sports Network) - Morris Woods recorded a team-high 13 points off the bench as the Eastern Illinois Panthers clinched a spot in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, defeating the SIU Edwardsville Cougars, 61-46, at Lantz Arena.

Sherman Blanford put up 10 points and six rebounds for the Panthers (11-20, 6-10 OVC). Austin Akers added eight points and eight assists as EIU won for the third time in as many games.

For the Cougars (9-18, 5-11), Mark Yelovich recorded a game-high 16 points and six rebounds, but was the only player in double figures as SIU Edwardsville bowed for the seventh time in eight outings to close out the regular season.

In the first half, SIUE was held to a mere 6-of-23 shooting from the field, while EIU knocking down 16-of-32 from the floor, including 5-of-10 beyond the arc, en route to a 40-16 advantage at the break.

SIUE outscored EIU 30-21 in the second half. The Cougars made 12-of-23 from the floor, but it was not enough to overcome the first-half deficit, as EIU took the 15-point victory.

EIU forced 14 turnovers and made 47.9 percent from the floor, including 6- of-15 from long-range.
