Recap: Eastern Ky vs. SIU Edwardsville

Richmond, KY (Sports Network) - Mike DiNunno scored 17 points as the Eastern Kentucky Colonels held on for a 78-72 victory over the SIU Edwardsville Cougars in Ohio Valley Conference play from McBrayer Arena.

Corey Walden added 16 points off the bench for Eastern Kentucky (12-3, 2-0 OVC) which has won three of its last four. Eric Stutz had 13 points and Orlando Williams also contributed 12 off the bench.

Jerome Jones paced SIU Edwardsville (4-8, 0-2) with 15 points, Mark Yelovich put in 14 off the bench, Michael Messer added 12 and Kris Davis chipped in 10 more as the Cougars lost for the third straight game.

Despite allowing the Cougars to hit on 60.0 percent (12-of-20) of their field goal attempts in the first half, Eastern Kentucky led 37-28 at halftime by hitting on 5-of-15 shots from beyond the arc while having 10 more field goal attempts than SIU Edwardsville. The Colonels made good on 13 of those 30 attempts.

The Cougars shot well again in the second half connecting on 60.0 percent of their field goal attempts yet again while Eastern Kentucky converted 50.0 percent of its shots which was enough to secure the win.

Eastern Kentucky traded in 17 Cougar turnovers for 17 points and had a 19-11 edge from the free throw line.
