Recap: Jacksonville St vs. Morehead State

Jacksonville, AL (Sports Network) - Tarvin Gaines scored a game-high 23 points in leading the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to a 70-59 victory over the Morehead State Eagles in Ohio Valley Conference action at Mathews Coliseum.

Ronnie Boggs scored 19 points and Brian Williams had 18 points and six assists but also committed seven turnovers for Jacksonville State (15-7, 7-4 OVC) which has won three straight.

Jourdan Stickler had 12 points and Milton Chavis and Drew Kelly each had 10 for Morehead State (11-13, 5-5) which has lost three of four.

The Gamecocks came out of the gate on fire, hitting 73.9 percent of their shots from the floor to take a 40-26 lead at halftime.

In the second half Jacksonville State shot at a 55.6 percent clip, including a 5-of-7 effort from beyond the arc, to coast to the victory.

Morehead State shot a solid 45.8 percent in the contest but was outscored 18-3 from beyond the arc.
