Recap: Morehead State vs. SIU Edwardsville

Morehead, KY (Sports Network) - Milton Chavis led the way with 16 points as the Morehead State Eagles defeated the SIU Edwardsville Cougars, 68-64, in Ohio Valley Conference action at Ellis Johnson Arena.

Angelo Warner added 14 points and Chad Posthumus pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds, 10 on the offensive end, for the Eagles (7-8, 1-0 OVC). Drew Kelly also added 12 points

For the Cougars (4-7, 0-1), Maurice Wiltz led the way with 16 points, while Kris Davis finished with 14 points and Derian Shaffer chipped in with 10 points.

Neither team shot the ball well to open the contest. Morehead State made just 33.3 percent of its field goal attempts and missed all but one of its nine 3-point attempts, but outscored the Cougars 10-5 at the free-throw line and outrebounded them 24-8, en route to a 31-23 lead at halftime. The Cougars shot 34.8 percent from the field, including just 2-of-9 from 3-point range, and shot just 5-of-10 from the free-throw line.

In the second half, both squads found their shooting touch. The Cougars shot 51.9 from the field after intermission, including 4-of-8 from beyond the 3- point arc. They also improved their free-throw shooting, making 9-of-10 from the line. The Eagles hit on 48.1 percent of their field goal attempts in the second half and were able to hold off the Cougars, who got no closer than four in the second half, as the Eagles were able to secure the road victory.

Morehead State dominated on the boards, finishing the contest with a 44-23 rebounding edge, including 19 offensive rebounds. The Eagles also outscored the Cougars 13-1 in second chance points.
