Recap: Tenn-Martin vs. Morehead State

Martin, TN (Sports Network) - Devon Atkinson registered a double-double of 12 points and 12 assists as the Morehead State Eagles defeated the Tennessee Martin Skyhawks, 88-74, in an Ohio Valley Conference matchup at the Elam Center.

Kahlil Owens netted a team-high 16 points to help Morehead State (10-10, 4-2 OVC) earn its second straight win. Bakari Turner added 14 points while Milton Chavis provided 11 points in 14 minutes off the bench.

Terence Smith and Mike Liabo scored 19 points each for the Skyhawks (4-15, 1-6) as they suffered their third setback in a row. Myles Taylor contributed 13 points and eight rebounds for UTM.

The Skyhawks jumped out to an early, 7-2, advantage after both teams got off to a slow start. Morehead State gained its composure and managed to hit 46.9 percent of its field goal attempts before the break to build a 39-27 halftime lead. UTM went into the intermission trailing after shooting just 22.2 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.

Although the Skyhawks improved to shoot 46.2 percent from the field and sink 15-of-19 at the charity stripe in the second half, the Eagles stayed in front by a sizeable margin by going 18-of-29 from the field including their 6-of-12 mark from 3-point range.

Morehead State outscored the hosts, 36-16, in the paint en route to the decision.
