Recap: Tennessee St vs. Morehead State

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Angelo Warner scored 23 points as the Morehead State Eagles narrowly defeated the Tennessee State Tigers, 101-100, in an Ohio Valley Conference battle at the Gentry Center.

Milton Chavis finished with 19 points and seven boards and Devon Atkinson had 16 points, eight assists and four steals as Morehead State (14-16, 8-7 OVC) snapped a two-game losing skid. Bruce Reed and Bakari Turner netted 10 points apiece.

Kellen Thornton went for a career-best 29 points in the losing effort for Tennessee State (16-13, 10-5) while Robert Covington chipped in 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Patrick Miller and Jordan Cyphers dropped 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Morehead State erupted for its highest scoring half of the season after shooting 60.6 percent from the floor and 9-of-15 from behind the arc in the opening 20 minutes. Tennessee State kept it close by making 15-of-17 at the foul line as the Eagles held a 51-43 edge at the break.

Neither team played much defense in the second half as MSU shot 63 percent from the floor and TSU 7-of-13 from long range. A Warner triple gave the Eagles an 87-67 lead with 7:24 remaining before the Tigers went on a tear to battle back.

Trailing 101-98 with 12 seconds remaining, TSU forced Jarrett Stokes into a turnover, setting up a Miller 3-point try which was off the mark. Covington's tip-in at the buzzer would be for naught. s MSU improved to 32-26 all-time versus TSU.
