Recap: Tenn-Martin vs. Murray State

Martin, TN (Sports Network) - Isaiah Canaan led all scorers with 18 points, as the Murray State Racers opened up Ohio Valley Conference play with a 73-62 win over the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks at the Elam Center.

Canaan was joined in double figures by Stacy Wilson and Jeffery Moss who finished with 16 and 14 points, respectively, for Murray State (10-3, 1-0 OVC), which ended a brief two-game slide with the win.

The Skyhawks (3-12, 0-3 OVC) also placed three players in double figures, led by Mike Liabo's 12 points. Myles Taylor finished with 11 points, while Terence Smith chipped in with 10, but it wasn't enough, as UT-Martin's current losing streak swelled to seven games.

The Racers jumped all over the Skyhawks, opening with a 15-4 run and taking a 33-19 advantage into halftime, thanks to 48 percent shooting, compared to a mere 28 percent (7-of-25) for the hometown Skyhawks.

UTM improved its shooting significantly after the break, knocking down 16- of-32 field-goal attempts over the final 20 minutes, but so did Murray State, which hit on 54.2 percent (13-of-24).

The visiting Racers shot 51 percent from the floor overall, while the Skyhawks finished up at just 40.4 percent, including a mere 18.2 percent from 3-point range (2-of-11). Murray State held a 35-30 edge in rebounding and forced 19 UTM turnovers.
