Recap: SIU Edwardsville vs. Tenn-Martin

Edwardsville, IL (Sports Network) - Led by 16 points from Mike Liabo, the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks edged the SIU Edwardsville Cougars, 65-62, in an Ohio Valley Conference battle at the Vadalabene Center.

Jeremy Washington added 15 points for the Skyhawks (5-16, 2-7 OVC), while Myles Taylor posted a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

For the Cougars (7-11, 3-5), Mark Yelovich finished with 16 points and Jerome Jones chipped in with 13 points.

UT Martin shot well to start the game, hitting on 48.3 percent from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, as the Skyhawks took a 34-28 lead into the break. SIUE was held to just 33.3 percent shooting from the field, including 2-of-9 from 3-point distance.

After halftime, the Cougars improved their shooting, connecting on 46.4 percent of their field goal tries and 4-of-11 from beyond the 3-point arc. The Skyhawks kept pace, making 47.4 percent of their shots from the field in the second half, including 2-of-3 from 3-point distance. After trailing the entire half, by as many as 10, the Cougars were able to tie it at 52-52 with just over six minutes to play. They were finally able to take the lead at 60-59 with 2:05 to play in regulation, but the Skyhawks finished the game scoring six of the last eight points to secure the victory.

The Skyhawks had a 35-28 rebounding edge for the game and outscored the Cougars in the paint, 26-16.
