Recap: South Alabama vs. Tennessee St

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Patrick Miller scored 14 points and Jay Harris added 12 as Tennessee State posted a 68-57 win over South Alabama in the opening game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Georgia State University's Sports Arena.

Robert Covington compiled nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds to help the Tigers (1-3) record their first victory after three losses to begin the season.

Tennessee State opened the game on a 13-2 run, with Harris netting seven points during the spurt, and never trailed at any point. The Tigers took a 36-24 lead at halftime, though the Jaguars' Augustine Rubit scored the first nine points of the second period to pull South Alabama within 36-33 with 17 minutes to go.

Up by five with 11:50 left, Tennessee State outscored the Jaguars by a 24-8 margin over the next 10 minutes to put the game out of reach.

Rubit finished with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting for a South Alabama (2-1) squad that had stunned then-No. 25 Florida State in its season opener back on Nov. 9.

Tennessee State will next face tournament host Georgia State on Tuesday, while the Jaguars will take on Monmouth in their second matchup.
