Provo, UT (Sports Network) - Tyler Haws recorded 28 points and eight rebounds as the BYU Cougars defeated the Portland Pilots, 86-72, in West Coast Conference play at the Marriott Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the Cougars (19-8, 9-4 WCC) as they snapped a two-game slide were Brandon Davies with 23 points, followed by Craig Cusick and Matt Carlino with 10 points and seven assists apiece.

The Pilots (10-18, 3-10) were paced by Thomas van der Mars with 19 points, followed by Tanner Riley and Oskars Reinfelds with 15 and 10 points, respectively, as the team bowed for the second time in three outings.

BYU scored the first points of the night and never looked back, shooting an impressive 60.7 percent from the floor in the first half in order to claim a commanding 46-25 lead at the break. Portland converted just 33.3 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes.

In the second half the Cougars again shot the ball well (.586), but the Pilots were able to narrow the gap some with their 60.0 percent accuracy and 6-of-11 shooting on the perimeter, but it was already too late for the visitors.

BYU turned the ball over just eight times in the meeting.
