Recap: Pepperdine vs. Santa Clara

Malibu, CA (Sports Network) - Kevin Foster was outstanding on his way to 29 points as the Santa Clara Broncos held off the Pepperdine Waves for an 83-76 triumph in a West Coast Conference tilt at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Foster went 11-of-17 from the field including a 6-of-11 mark from 3-point range for Santa Clara (14-6, 3-3 WCC) as it picked up its second-straight win. Marco Trasolini added 18 points and eight boards, Raymond Cowels III produced 15 points and nine rebounds, and Evan Roquemore dealt out 10 assists.

Lorne Jackson tallied 23 points and five assists to pace Pepperdine (9-9, 1-4), which saw its losing streak grow to three with the setback. Jordan Baker scored 15 points for the Waves in the losing effort.

The Broncos were unstoppable at the start of the contest, hitting 9-of-17 from beyond the arc on their way to a 46-36 halftime lead. Pepperdine trailed by 10 at the break despite hitting 5-of-6 from distance and all 11 of its free throw attempts in the first half.

Both sides shot an even 50 percent from the field in the second period. Santa Clara led by as many as 13, but the Waves rallied and cut the deficit to 68-66 with 4:40 remaining. Foster made a jumper on the ensuing play and the Broncos did not allow it to become a one-possession game the rest of the way.

Rebounding played a big role, as Santa Clara held off Pepperdine with its 34-27 edge on the glass.
