Recap: San Diego vs. Portland

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Chris Anderson scored 14 points as the San Diego Toreros topped the Portland Pilots, 61-50, in a West Coast Conference brawl at Jenny Craig Pavilion.

Ken Rancifer added 10 points and Chris Manresa had a game-high 11 points for San Diego (8-8, 2-0 WCC) which has won back-to-back games.

Thomas van der Mars scored 12 points and brought in eight rebounds while Ryan Nicholas added 12 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double for Portland (7-9, 0-1) which had won four of its previous five.

At halftime the two teams were knotted at 27-27. San Diego shot just 39.3 percent in the first half but hit 4-of-10 shots from beyond the arc to keep up with Portland which hit on 40.1 percent of its field goal attempts.

San Diego improved to 42.9 percent shooting in the second half and outscored Portland 14-4 from the free throw line to pull away for the win.

The Pilots made just 2-of-15 shots from beyond the arc in the loss.
