Recap: St Marys-CA vs. Drexel

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Matthew Dellavedova scored a season-high 32 points to lead the St. Mary's Gaels past the Drexel Dragons, 76-64, on Thursday at the DIRECTV Classic.

Dellavedova shot 10-of-16 from the field and converted on 10-of-12 from the free throw line. Brad Waldow added 15 points and seven rebounds, while James Walker III scored 13 off the bench for St. Mary's (4-0), which will play Pacific in the second round of the tournament on Friday.

Frantz Massenat led Drexel with 17 points and Tavon Allen contributed 16 in the loss. The Dragons (1-3) will face Xavier in the consolation round on Friday.

St. Mary's carried a 36-28 advantage into the second half, but Drexel began the final 20 minutes on an 8-2 run to make it a two-point game.

However, they weren't able to keep it close for long. Following a three-point play from Waldow later in the half, Dellavedova and Walker III each knocked down 3-pointers around a Matt Hodgson layup to put the Gaels ahead 55-46.

St. Mary's extended its advantage to 14 following a three-point play from Dellavedova with 6:25 to go and held a double-digit edge the rest of the way.
