Recap: St Marys-CA vs. Santa Clara

Moraga, CA (Sports Network) - Matthew Dellavedova became the all-time leading scorer in school history as the Saint Mary's Gaels defeated the Santa Clara Broncos, 80-67, in a West Coast Conference regular season finale at McKeon Pavilion.

Dellavedova went 5-of-18 from the field but made all 11 of his attempts at the free-throw line en route to 21 points for the Gaels (26-5, 14-2 WCC) as he passed Daniel Kickert for first place on the school's all-time scoring list. Dellavedova, who also dealt out six assists and grabbed the same number of rebounds, now has 1,892 career points. Stephen Holt chipped in 13 points, Mitchell Young added 12 and Brad Waldow pulled down nine boards. SMU will be the second seed in the upcoming WCC Tournament.

Marco Trasolini paced Santa Clara (21-10, 9-7) with 21 points and eight rebounds while Kevin Foster went just 3-of-13 from the floor to net 14 points. Evan Roquemore finished with 11 points, five rebounds and five assists. Brandon Clark scored 10 points off the bench for the Broncos, who will be the No. 4 seed in the conference tourney.

Santa Clara took went ahead, 9-4, in the early going before the hosts battled back to take a 36-35 lead into halftime. Although they attempted six less field goals in the first half, the Broncos stayed close by converting 10-of-11 at the charity stripe.

Both sides struggled offensively after the intermission. Santa Clara went 11- of-30 from the field while SMC hit on 9-of-25 from the floor including just 2- of-10 from 3-point range. The Gaels did a great job of attack throughout the half to earn frequent trips to the charity stripe, where they sank 24-of-27 to pull away for the double-digit decision.

SMC enjoyed a 43-32 edge in the rebounding battle in the contest that featured nine ties and 11 lead changes.
