Recap: Ohio State vs. UMKC

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Deshaun Thomas tallied 21 points and eight rebounds for the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes, who dominated the University of Missouri-Kansas City, 91-45, to complete a perfect showcasing during play in the 2012 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off.

In just 21 minutes of play, the Buckeyes' leading scorer shot 6-for-8 from the field to help Ohio State (4-0) to their fourth straight double-digit win.

Lenzelle Smith Jr. added 13 points and six rebounds, while Aaron Craft contributed six points and six assists in the victory.

"I was excited to see our guys play from start to finish," said Ohio State coach Thad Matta. "Going into the game we didn't want Kansas City to be comfortable on offense because they run their offense very well. We had to disrupt them, and I thought our guys did that very well."

Disrupt them they did, as the Kangaroos (2-3) were held to just 25.5 percent (14-of-55) from the field in dropping their third of the four tournament contests. Estan Tyler scored a team-high seven points, but was responsible for six of the Roos' 18 turnovers.

"We gave them a lot of early shots. A lot of kids haven't been in an environment like this before," said UMKC coach Matt Brown. "They had some wide-open looks at the basket. They are a terrific team."

Ohio State set the tone in the first half with strong play on both sides of the ball to run away with this one early. They connected on 13 of their first 20 shots to take a commanding 31-10 lead just over 12 minutes in and extended their advantage to 35 by halftime.

On the defensive end, the Buckeyes forced the Roos into 12 first half turnovers, which netted 21 points for Ohio State. UMKC mustered only 18 points in the opening period, just three more than Thomas' first half total for Ohio State.

Sam Thompson hit a jumper and then a pair of free throws just over four minutes into the second half to push Ohio State's advantage to 41 at 65-24.

The Buckeyes grabbed their biggest lead of the game following a LaQuinton Ross layup with 2:30 to play, giving them a 89-41 lead.
