Recap: Wofford vs. Appalachian St

Spartanburg, SC (Sports Network) - Tevin Baskin's layup with 2:32 remaining in the second half proved to be the difference as the Appalachian State Mountaineers held on to defeat the Wofford Terriers, 50-49, in Southern Conference action at Benjamin Johnson Arena.

Baskin finished with 10 points off the bench for the Mountaineers (5-8, 1-1 SoCon) as they won their third straight game and the fourth in the last five outings. Also putting up 10 points for ASU was Nathan Healy who shot 4-of-10 from the floor.

The Terriers (6-9, 0-2) were paced by Spencer Collins who tallied a game-high 13 points, followed by Lee Skinner with 10 and eight boards for a Wofford team that lost for the third time in as many games.

A close game throughout the first half, neither team was able to build a lead larger than three points, with ASU moving out to a slim 26-25 edge at the break even though the visitors shot only 37.5 percent from the floor and 1- of-9 behind the 3-point line in the period.

In the second half the Mountaineers pushed their advantage to nine points at the 17:15 mark, but refusing to go away quietly, Wofford battled back and claimed a seven-point edge of its own with just over eight minutes left to play. A jumper by Collins with 6:57 remaining put the Terriers up by five at 49-44, but the team failed to score another point, leaving Baskin's basket as the game-winner.

In a game that featured five ties and 10 lead changes, Appalachian State picked up the victory as it connected on a mere 3-of-18 on the perimeter.
