Appalachian State stayed close despite shooting only 30.3 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

The Mountaineers scored 17 points off of turnovers and held a 26-12 edge in points in the paint after halftime. UNCG did not make a field goal in the second half until there was 12:32 left to play, at which point its seven-point halftime lead had already become a seven-point deficit. The Spartans went cold after the break and missed all seven of their 3-point attempts.
