Recap: Chattanooga vs. Western Carolina
Chattanooga, TN (Sports Network) - Trey Sumler scored 25 points and tied a career-high with 12 assists as the Western Carolina Catamounts outlasted the Chattanooga Mocs, 90-81, in Southern Conference action at McKenzie Arena.
Sumler shot just 6-of-17 from the field but drained all 10 of his free throw attempts for WCU (8-11, 5-2 SoCon), which had lost its previous two contests. Tom Tankelewicz connected on 7-of-9 from 3-point range for 21 points, while Brandon Boggs and Tawaski King netted 19 and 18, respectively.
For Chattanooga (8-11, 3-3), Z. Mason scored 21 points and Gee McGhee poured in 19 points.
WCU shot 54.5 percent from the field in the first half and made eight buckets from long range as it got out to a 48-39 lead at intermission.
The Catamounts led by as many as 14 in the second half, and while Chattanooga got its deficit to just four with under two minutes to play, it would get no closer.
The Mocs shot less than 40 percent from the field but kept the game close by going 25-of-36 from the foul line.Game Notes
