Statesboro, GA (Sports Network) - Eric Ferguson's 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining lifted the Georgia Southern Eagles to a 59-57 win over the Chattanooga Mocs in a Southern Conference clash at Hanner Fieldhouse.
C.J. Reed had 19 points and Ferguson scored 16 for Georgia Southern (10-13, 4-6 SoCon) which had lost three of its previous four games.
Gee McGhee put in 19 points, Zaccheus Mason had 14 and Drazen Zlovaric had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for Chattanooga (8-14, 3-6) which has lost four straight.
The Eagles ran out to a 36-23 lead at halftime by shooting 50 percent from the field while holding the Mocs to just six field goals.
In the second half Chattanooga heated up to 47.8 percent shooting while holding an 11-2 edge from the free-throw line to rally and take a 57-56 lead with 40 seconds remaining after a 11-0 run in the final five minutes. Ferguson then hit a 3-pointer and when McGhee's attempt at the buzzer was off the Eagles escaped.
Chattanooga had a 39-32 edge in rebounds but was outscored 24-3 from beyond the arc.Game Notes
