Omaha, NE (Sports Network) - CJ Carter scored a game-high 26 points as the Mavericks of Nebraska Omaha defeated the UMKC Kangaroos, 77-65, in Summit League action at Ralston Arena.

Carter connected on 10-of-12 shots from the floor, adding four rebounds and four assists for the Mavericks (4-12, 1-3 Summit) as they snapped a two-game slide. Justin Simmons converted 5-of-9 behind the 3-point line as he tallied 20 points, while Alex Welhouse registered a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Kangaroos (4-10, 1-2) were paced by Thomas Staton with 23 points and seven rebounds, while Estan Tyler and Nelson Kirksey responded with 12 and 10 points, respectively, as the team lost their sixth straight outing.

Omaha opened the meeting on a 13-5 run and, thanks to an 8-of-14 shooting effort beyond the arc in the first half, led by a score of 43-21 at the break. Defensively, the Mavericks held the visitors to just 1-of-8 on the perimeter in the period.

In the second half UMKC again had trouble from the outside (2-of-11), yet the squad knocked down 54.8 percent from the floor and all but one of nine tries at the free-throw line in order to close the gap before suffering the 12-point setback.

The hosts overcame 16 turnovers by shooting 10-of-22 beyond the arc and 48.3 from the field overall.
