Recap: Samford vs. Citadel

Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - Tyler Hood led the way with 19 points as Samford collected a 79-67 victory over The Citadel in Southern Conference play at the Pete Hanna Center.

Tim Williams and Raijon Kelley tallied 17 points apiece while combining to go 13-of-17 from the floor for Samford (8-16, 6-5 SoCon), while Clide Geffrard, Jr. added 11 points to help the hosts snap a four-game losing streak.

Mike Groselle and Janeil Jenkins scored 13 points each for The Citadel (6-17, 3-10). Matt Van Scyoc contributed 10 points as the team's two-game winning streak ended.

Samford came out of the gate with on fire as it hit 68 percent of its field goal attempts and 11-of-12 at the charity stripe in the opening 20 minutes. The Citadel went into halftime trailing, 48-32, despite shooting 47.4 percent from the floor before the break.

The Citadel heated up to connect on 50 percent of its field goal tries after the break, but Samford continued to light it up and hit 62.3 percent of its shots from field in the second period.

Samford dealt out 20 assists to 14 turnovers, while The Citadel managed just 12 assists to 19 miscues.
