Recap: Elon vs. Coll of Charleston

Elon, NC (Sports Network) - The College of Charleston Cougars opened up Southern Conference play with a 56-54 win over the Elon Phoenix behind a double-double performance by Willis Hall at Alumni Gym.

Hall shot 8-of-14 from the floor on his way to 19 points, while pulling down 12 rebounds for the Cougars (5-2, 1-0 SoCon) who have now won four in a row. Andrew Lawrence scored 11 points and handed out four assists, but turned the ball over eight times. Adjehi Baru scored nine points and cleared eight boards.

Ryley Beaumont led the Phoenix (5-3, 1-1 SoCon) in scoring with 14 points to go with seven rebounds. Lucas Troutman tallied 12 points and four rebounds in the loss.

Charleston led 29-24 at halftime after holding the Phoenix to 26.7 percent shooting from the field.

Elon shot 42.9 percent from the floor in the second half and outscored the Cougars 30-27, but Austin Hamilton's three-point attempt at the buzzer was no good as the Cougars continued their early season success.

The Phoenix scored 25 points off turnovers by Charleston, but their 34.5 percent shooting from the field is what kept them from victory.
