Recap: Coll of Charleston vs. Furman

Charleston, SC (Sports Network) - Anthony Stitt finished with 14 points as the College of Charleston Cougars downed the Furman Paladins, 60-56, in a Southern Conference showdown at TD Arena.

Andrew Lawrence added 13 points for the Cougars (10-4, 2-0 SoCon), while Anthony Thomas scored 10 points and Willis Hall pulled down 11 rebounds.

The Paladins (3-10, 0-2) were led by Colin Reddick with a game-high 25 points, while Stephen Croone chipped in with 11 points.

Neither team could find the basket in the first half, with both squads shooting below 36 percent from the field. Furman could manage just 32.3 percent, missing all but one of their seven 3-pooint attempts. Charleston was little better, making only 35.7 percent of their field goal attempts, but it was good enough to give them a 27-22 lead at the break.

The Paladins improved in the second half, shooting 44.4 percent from the field, but still had trouble from long distance, missing all four of their shots from beyond the 3-point arc. The Cougars shot only 33.3 percent from the field, but did connect on 4-of-10 from 3-point range. Both teams led for stretches in the second half. Furman was up five, 54-49, with 2:34 to play, but the Cougars reeled off 10 unanswered points to retake the lead and pull out the victory.

The Cougars outscored the Paladins from 3-point range, 18-3. Conversely, Furman dominated Charleston down low, outscoring them in the paint 34-16.
