Recap: South Alabama vs. Arkansas State

Mobile, AL (Sports Network) - Rakeem Dickerson scored 15 points, swiped five steals, and pulled down five rebounds to lift the Arkansas State Red Wolves to a 63-54 victory over the South Alabama Jaguars in a Sun Belt Conference bout at the Mitchell Center.

Brandon Peterson also tallied 15 points to go along with seven rebounds for ASU (8-5, 2-2 SBC). Trey Finn and Ed Townsel grabbed nine board each as the Red Wolves won their second consecutive game.

For the Jaguars (6-6, 3-1), Augustine Rubit recorded a double-double with 20 points and 17 rebounds. Antoine Allen added 11 points as USA had its two-game winning streak snapped and suffered its first setback in league action.

ASU took a 28-23 lead into the break after it hit 33.3 percent of its field goal attempts and converted 9-of-13 at the charity stripe in the first half. The Jaguars went into halftime trailing after being held to 25 percent shooting from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.

USA faced a 13-point deficit with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation before it used an 11-2 run to cut the margin on the scoreboard to 52-48. Dickerson drained a 3-pointer on ASU's next possession to end the threat and the Jaguars were unable to recover. The Red Wolves outscored the hosts, 18-12, in the paint in the second half to help power the nine-point decision.

The Jaguars finished the game 17-of-62 from the field including a 4-of-27 mark on shots from beyond the arc. ASU outscored the hosts, 13-3, in points off of turnovers even though both sides were guilty of 17 miscues.
