Recap: Arkansas State vs. FIU

Jonesboro, AR (Sports Network) - Jerome Frink and Tymell Murphy both scored 12 points as they helped lead the FIU Panthers to a narrow 66-64 win over the Arkansas State Red Wolves in Sun Belt Conference play at the Convocation Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the Panthers (8-7, 3-3 SBC) as they won their fourth straight game were Deric Hill and Malik Smith with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Red Wolves (10-6, 4-3) were paced by Ed Townsel who tallied a game-high 20 points, although he shot just 4-of-15 behind the 3-point line as the team had a four-game win streak snapped. Before fouling out, Trey Finn registered 13 points, eight boards and four steals.

FIU connected on an impressive 63.2 percent from the floor in the first half, including 6-of-8 behind the 3-point line, and yet the visitors led by a mere three points at the break, 36-33.

In the second half ASU again made only 34.5 percent from the field, yet that was still good enough to challenge the Panthers down to the wire in the two- point final.

The Panthers were beaten on the glass, 39-27, and turned the ball over 17 times, but they made up for those deficiencies by knocking down 8-of-16 shots on the perimeter.
